Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has recently claimed that his cricket career was intentionally damaged by biased decisions. In a recent television interview, Amir stated that a former cricketer from the 1990s played a key role in sidelining him from the national team.
Although Amir did not mention any names, several Pakistani media outlets have speculated that his comments were directed towards legendary pacer and former coach Waqar Younis.
Amir was banned in 2010 due to his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during the Lord’s Test. After serving his suspension and jail time, he returned to international cricket in 2016 when Waqar was still coaching the national team. According to Amir, Waqar repeatedly tried to keep him out of the squad. He added, “The national team was announced even before the PSL started, so that even if Shoaib Malik and I performed well, we wouldn’t be considered.”
In 2020, Amir announced his retirement from international cricket, citing mental pressure. However, he came out of retirement in 2023 and took part in series against New Zealand, Ireland, and England, including the T20 World Cup. Following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the tournament, Amir once again stepped away from international cricket.
Currently, Amir plays for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In this season, he has taken 12 wickets in 8 matches and is set to play in the final against Lahore Qalandars.
